Sixth-grade English includes both Language Arts and Literature, taught together. The students continue to study the fundamentals of grammar, vocabulary, critical thinking, literary analysis, and writing through assigned novels. There is emphasis writing Through our Creative writing class giving the students the opportunity to begin learning analytical skills thorough collaborative and group sessions.


Our 6th Grade Math course is based on the Singapore method of instruction. The Internationally renowned Singapore Math curriculum is aligned with the State Common Core Standards. It is a research based focusing on discussions and practice, creating a balance between concepts, visual learning, and problem solving. Singapore Math expose the students to real life examples, and emphasis on hand on practices which is line with R.I.S.E. academy philosophy.

Students in 6th grade focus on:

  • Ordering and comparing positive and negative numbers
  • fractions, mixed numbers, and decimals, ratios, rates, and percents
  • Algebraic expressions, equations and inequalities, coordinates and graphs, how towrite linear equations, and how to use tables and graphs to represent equations.
  • Areas of polygons and circles, perimeter and circumference, surface area and volume of three-dimensional shapes
  • Pre-Algebra offers students an introduction to the concepts of algebra and geometry, solidifying their understanding of arithmetic concepts and procedures. There is great emphasis on logic, critical thinking skills, problem solving, and the reading and writing of mathematics The Pre-Algebra component gives the students a strong foundation for Algebra.

Social Studies

TCI History Alive

History Alive Curriculum helps students succeed in learning about history in a way that is fun and exciting. The TCI Approach consists of three main components: exciting learning activities, reading the textbook, and writing about what was learned in the interactive student notebooks. With the TCI Approach, students not only learn more, but also have fun!

The Ancient World introduces students to the beginnings of the human story. As they explore the great early civilizations of Egypt and the Near East, India, China, Greece, and Rome, students discover the secrets of these ancient cultures that continue to influence the modern world.

The Foss science curriculum:

  • Actively engages students with meaningful experiences
  • Prepares students exceeding the California Common Core Standards, integrating vigorous reading and literacy strategies to support the Common Core ELA for all students
  • Utilizes technology to deliver learning experiences

FOSS Middle School bridges research and practice by providing tools and strategies to engage students in meaningful experiences that lead to deeper understanding of the natural and designed world. The curriculum covers Earth and Environmental Science, natural science (Biology), Physics and chemistry through interactive and project based learning, and experimentation.

Physical Education

Strength and Conditioning

The design of the class concentrate on the fundamentals of strength and conditioning. The focus is on motor control, movement patterns, and proper form. Our PE program objective is instill in the students positive attitude towards and physical and mental health. The class is designed to increase strength, speed, power, and agility and gaining a competitive edge through workouts that are both physically and mentally challenging to prepare the students to compete at his/her highest level.


Sports Classes will be comprised of two to four week standard bases activity units. Sports include but not limited to: Soccer, Basketball, Volley Ball, Baseball, and badminton.

Aerobic Running

During their course of study, the JH students work to develop and fine tune a wide collection of dramatic tools including body language, eye contact, facial expression, gesture, language, tempo and voice.. Students have the opportunity to tell a story through performance, and critically analyze artistic work as they reflect upon their own personal connections Drama. The Drama class enhances creativity, improve self-esteem and develop collaborative work habits. They will eventually have the opportunity to perform in school play.
